In order to play pickleball, all you need is a paddle, ball, and net. Of course, there are accessories that will make your time on the court more enjoyable, but for the most part, a paddle and a ball are all you need.

Pickleball Paddle Bundle FAQs

When choosing a paddle, here are some questions you should ask yourself:

  • Do you prefer heavy or light paddles?
  • Do you desire power or ball control, or is spin the most important feature you’re looking for?
  • Do you want an edge guard around your paddle or do you want an edgeless paddle for more surface area?
  • What kind of paddle core do you want?
  • What about the paddle face? What type of surface do you want your paddle face to have?
  • What grip size and texture do you want?
  • What paddle shape do you prefer? Do you like a classic shape, an oversized face, or an elongated paddle?
  • What paddle does your favorite pro play with?

Some pickleball players use multiple paddles for their game. Since there are many different paddles to choose from, you have no shortage of options. Paddles come in different shapes, weights, colors, cores, paddle face surfaces, and different grips.

Some paddles provide larger sweet spots. Others offer more power or better control. Some paddles are known for spin.

Some players prefer to use a different paddle when playing indoors compared to outdoor play in the wind. Other players use a different paddle to play singles compared to when they play doubles.

Paddle bundles are typically sold with 2 or 4 paddles. Sometimes they offer different colored paddles in the set. Having extra paddles isn’t a bad thing. That way you always have a backup, or you have a paddle to let someone borrow. Some manufacturers offer a good warranty and will replace your broken paddle. Having a backup paddle during the time you don’t have the broken one is beneficial.

Depending on how durable a paddle is, how hard you hit a ball, and how long you play will determine how long a paddle will last.

From our experience, paddles can typically last for a few years if you are a rec player. If you’re a pro player, someone who is involved with tournament play, or someone who drills often, paddles may last less than a year.

According to our partner Fromuth Pickleball, the lifespan of a paddle for a rec player is typically 1-5 years.

In addition to the obvious wear and tear on a paddle, if the noise coming off the paddle after you hit a ball sounds different, you should buy a new paddle. You should also consider a new paddle if you notice dead spots in the sweet spot.

The Decision is Yours

Making the decision of which is the right pickleball paddle set to buy is ultimately yours; however, we hope the recommendations we provide above will help with your search so you can have a great time playing one of the fastest-growing sports.

See you on the court sporting your new paddle!
